Continental integrates front and interior cameras for autonomous driving applications

Company’s 'Road AND Camera' system combines an inward-looking infra-red camera and an outward-looking camera

Continental has developed a new camera system that will enable safe transfer of driving responsibility in automated driving vehicles, the Germany based supplier said in a press release in August 13. The company’s ‘Road AND Camera’ system combines an inward-looking infra-red camera and an outward-looking camera. The system is located behind the windshield of the vehicle, above the rear-view mirror, with its lens aimed at the road ahead to provide the data for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The outward-looking camera delivers superior night vision characteristics and high image resolution, ranging from one to eight megapixels, and aperture of up to 125°, to support earlier detection of cross traffic objects.
