IHS Markit forecasts indicate that one in five light vehicles sold globally by 2025 will be either a full HEV or a BEV. The EV battery which is the heart of a modern electric vehicle, is highly temperature sensitive and must be maintained within a narrow temperature band to ensure high operational efficiency, maximize life cycle and prevent permanent damage. Additionally, the temperature variation within the cells in a battery pack also needs to be controlled. In cold climates, the EV battery would need heating or warming function to help the battery pack to quickly reach the ideal temperature range to avoid low temperature operation and facilitate fast charging. As the EV market matures, the trend is moving towards an intelligent and integrated thermal management system which connects the various electric modules, allowing heat to be harvested for cabin and battery heating. Higher application of larger batteries and fast charging are expected to be the main drivers for the sector.
